Check out our free facebook Membership group<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The knots in your stomach might be churning tighter&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And you&#8217;re feeling super unappreciated\u2026<\/p>\n<p>But now is <strong>not<\/strong> the time to get emotional.<\/p>\n<p>And I know you <em><strong>will<\/strong><\/em> be emotional&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Of course you will!<\/p>\n<p>It can be gut wrenching to see data like this.<\/p>\n<p>It can make you want to scream learning that a peer is paid more than you, or worse perhaps, a junior.<\/p>\n<p>I get it!<\/p>\n<p>Feeling validated and recognised is a basic human need.<\/p>\n<p>And if you are feeling this way it\u2019s only because you\u2019re a human and, thank goodness for that, right?!<\/p>\n<p>But hey, here\u2019s the thing \u2026<\/p>\n<p>Getting emotional isn\u2019t going to help you <strong>solve this challenge<\/strong>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>So let all that anger and frustration out&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And then let\u2019s get practical and objective and constructive about what to do about it.<\/p>\n<p>We want a solution, right?<\/p>\n<p>And, as a coach, I\u2019m with you all the way to help you get one. &#x1f44d;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"_form_27\"><\/div>\n<p><script src=\"https:\/\/illuminategrowth.activehosted.com\/f\/embed.php?id=27\" type=\"text\/javascript\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>You Just Found Out Your Peer Is Paid More Than You&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p>So let&#8217;s get started and do a little role-play.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m going to call this peer, or junior person, who is receiving this larger salary, <em>Jaime<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The truth is &#8211; and this might hurt to hear &#8211; <em>Jaime\u2019s salary is actually none of your business<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>(I told you it would hurt).<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s why:<\/p>\n<p>There could be a <strong>multitude of reasons<\/strong> why Jaime is paid what they are paid today\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>(Again, none of these reasons are your business but it might help you get that perspective you need).<\/p>\n<p>For example\u2026<\/p>\n<p>1\/ Jaime could have been negotiating hard as soon as he or she took on their <strong>first grad role<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>2\/ Jaime might have worked previously in a work <strong>culture or industry<\/strong> that was strong on financial reward&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>3\/ It might have been a culture too where <strong>bonuses or equity<\/strong> were also part of salary packages, enabling wealth to accrue faster.<\/p>\n<p>4\/ Jaime could have n<strong>egotiated 3 or 4, or 8 times throughout their career<\/strong> already, accumulating a larger base and bonus each time.<\/p>\n<p>5\/ Jaime might have <strong>specific skills, qualifications, experiences<\/strong> or had <strong>opportunities<\/strong> in their career that have made them more valuable and marketable.<\/p>\n<p>6\/ Maybe, fundamentally, Jaime has <strong>consistently pushed harder<\/strong> to ask for what they want.<\/p>\n<p>7\/ Maybe Jaime&#8217;s <strong>expectations of what&#8217;s possible<\/strong> and what they are <strong>worth<\/strong> have been high all along.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1581 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/illuminategrowth.com.au\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Snappy-woman-ADOBE-small-1024x540.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"594\" height=\"313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/illuminategrowth.com.au\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Snappy-woman-ADOBE-small-1024x540.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/illuminategrowth.com.au\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Snappy-woman-ADOBE-small-300x158.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/illuminategrowth.com.au\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Snappy-woman-ADOBE-small-768x405.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/illuminategrowth.com.au\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Snappy-woman-ADOBE-small-1536x809.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/illuminategrowth.com.au\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Snappy-woman-ADOBE-small-600x316.jpeg 600w, https:\/\/illuminategrowth.com.au\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Snappy-woman-ADOBE-small.jpeg 1947w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 594px) 100vw, 594px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/careersuccessforambitiouswomen\">Looking for a community of awesome women? Check out our free facebook Membership group<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>So What Does That Mean For You?<\/h2>\n<p>Now I am not saying that <em>you<\/em> haven&#8217;t been adopting some, or all, of these strategies&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>But what I am saying is that whatever path Jaime has taken to get to this spot today&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Is <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>unique<\/strong><\/span><\/em> to Jaime and given it was their choice and a set of actions they took to get this outcome, <strong>it&#8217;s none of your business<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>And in many respects, isn&#8217;t relevant right now either.<\/p>\n<p>What <em>is<\/em> relevant however&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Is thinking about <strong>you<\/strong> and <strong>your career<\/strong> and how you can start to negotiate on your own behalf more effectively.<\/p>\n<p>You can choose to get mad or feel jealous or worry about situations <strong>outside<\/strong> of your control&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Or you can choose to look at this <strong>objectively<\/strong> and figure out which practical steps you could take right away to turn this around.<\/p>\n<p>And if you haven\u2019t ever negotiated on behalf for yourself, it might be time to start.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s never too late to start btw&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And it you want some practical starting steps, keep reading&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"_form_27\"><\/div>\n<p><script src=\"https:\/\/illuminategrowth.activehosted.com\/f\/embed.php?id=27\" type=\"text\/javascript\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>How to Start Negotiating for Yourself<\/h2>\n<p>Ready with a notebook and a pen?<\/p>\n<p>Great!<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s get started&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>1\/ First up, I&#8217;d like to invite you to review the 7 steps that Jaime might have taken above.<\/p>\n<p>Have these steps given you any <strong>fresh insight<\/strong> as to why things are as they are for you perhaps?<\/p>\n<p>Are there relevant steps that you would like to adopt or get better at? &#x1f914;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2\/ Remember a salary is just one part of any package.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What else is important<\/strong> to you in your life?<\/p>\n<p>Growth opportunities? Learning opportunities? Balance? Mentorship? Giving back?<\/p>\n<p>Could these be factored into your negotiation?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3\/ Know your <strong>market value<\/strong>. Bottom line &#8211; this is the most important bit of data to find out. &#x1f64c;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>4\/ Forget everyone else for a minute, your market value and all that.<\/p>\n<p>Just get really clear on what salary you would be happy with, that you feel reflects the value you add.<\/p>\n<p>A salary that you would be <strong>proud<\/strong> of.
