3 Ways You’re Abdicating Your Own Authority & Selling Yourself Short

As you progress up the ladder to senior leadership, you have two choices:

1.      Assume your authority or
2.      Abdicate it

Assuming your authority means you believe in your right to be in any room. You know you have value to add. You assume too that your opinions will be welcomed.

*** Until you are thinking that way, you are likely doing something else all together: you are likely abdicating, or abandoning, your authority instead.***

This morning on my podcast (Her Ambitious Career) I went live talking about this exact and critical distinction.

And there are 3 clear ways you could be abdicating your authority right now… and those actions (or inactions) will be having a significant negative impact on your career and your ability to realise your true potential.

That’s how important this strategy is.

Let’s dive into those 3 ways you might be abdicating your authority… and what that means for your career:

#1

If you’re abdicating your authority it could be that you are undermining your true value proposition, instead of recognising the huge value you are already adding to your organisation. 😬

#2

If you’re abdicating your authority it could mean you’re falling into the comparison trap, assuming that other people’s authority invariably trumps your own. 😐

#3

If you’re abdicating your authority it could mean you’re allowing fear to take priority over your ability to solve any problem or take advantage of any opportunity. 🙄

Abdicating your authority = playing it way too small and your career suffers as a result.
