DEI is Alive and Well – 3 Steps to Combat Any Feelings of Disillusionment

If you’re feeling a little deflated by the start of the year, despite having positive intentions for a stellar start, you’re not alone!

Recent events in US politics might also have you questioning what the role truly is for diversity and inclusion going forwards.

Countless studies have repeatedly shown us that hiring for diversity of thought and experience is good for business

And yet some Presidents and CEOs are telling us right now that DEI is no longer a requirement of business.

Their intention is not only to bolster opportunity for men just like them, but to demean and disempower minority groups such as women, people of colour and LGBTQ+ communities.

DEI is not dead.

And it’s essential not to buy into the narrative and stick to the facts… and to the reams of data that support inclusive workplaces.

Counter any feelings of deflation with my series of 3 quick podcast episodes and get back in the driving seat of your career.

Let’s go!  🙂

Step 1: Know Your Impact and Value Proposition

Make sure you start the year by reviewing the impact you have already made!

It’s so easy to doubt yourself.

It can happen in the blink of an eye, triggered by mere words.

Despite all the effort you put in, it can be easy to forget your achievements!

The fastest way to combat feelings of disillusionment is to focus your energy into understanding where you’re already adding value and making an impact.

Think of it like a dissection of your track-record by defining your tangible value.

I’m walking you through how to do this, in 3 easy steps, in this podcast episode right here:

–> 3 Steps to Review a Busy Year & Acknowledge Your Impact (19 mins)

Step 2: Define Your Intention as a Leader

Next, you might want to take a step back and instead of writing a list of goals (things you want to ACHIEVE / DO in the year ahead)…

Ask instead, who do you want to BE?

What kind of leader will you BE?

How do you want to BE perceived?

What legacy will you leave? This is a much more powerful (and interesting) question to ask… 😊

Step 3: Decide How You’ll Regain Control

Lastly, you want to think about regaining control… because in times of uncertainty, and when feeling deflated, control is exactly what you’re missing.

As women in a corporate world, there are factors all the time that are working against us.

Trump tells us DEI is dead… I disagree.

I believe there are always factors within and outside of our control.

The key is to know your values and beliefs and take steps to set yourself up for success always.

In some cases, it might mean moving department, company, or even industry.

But know how to get the support you need to achieve your true potential – rather than feeling stuck or limited by any circumstances around you.

Listen to these important 5 steps here:

–> 5 Ways to Take Control of The Year Ahead (12 mins)

What Next?

We women will not internalise discrimination.

Discrimination exists outside of us, yes, but we can choose whether to believe it and whether to own it.
