Are You Lacking Confidence or Career Strategy… or Both?

Conversation #1:

“Maybe I’m too old for this”, she said.
“Too old for what?” I asked.
“Too old to be chasing promotions and success.”

Conversation #2:

“I’ve not got what it takes…” she said.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“They’ll see through me eventually – they’ll realise I’m not smart enough for this role.”

Conversation #3:

“Working really hard doesn’t get you promoted,” she said.​​​​​​ 

“What do you mean?” I asked.
“I’ve been working my butt off for the last 5 years – have I been promoted? Well, that’s a big fat N-O.”

These are actual conversations I have had with coaching clients.​

Are You Lacking Confidence? 

What I have found, over the years of coaching corporate women, ​​is they are often missing two things:

#1 : Confidence
(Definition: confidence in your ability, expertise and experience)​​

#2 : Strategy
(Definition: defining what you want and aligning yourself with key decision makers to achieve it)​ ​

Now, y​​ou might argue that a lot of women are up against it too…

Because their gender-biased organisations are actually what hold them back…

(And I don’t disagree with that perspective in the slightest because sadly, far too often, that is also true)…

However, the last time I checked,​​​​ you are still the pilot of your own career – am I right?

So whatever your circumstance, you always have choice.

And when you have choice, you also have control.

So regardless of the external circumstances you find yourself in, you still have total control over how you respond to that challenge.
