Ep 16 – The 5 Pillars of a Healthy Work Culture, with guest Leslie Carver

Is your work culture toxic or is it highly tuned so that employees feel engaged, safe and that there are opportunities for their growth?

In this ep, ‘The 5 Pillars of a Healthy Work Culture’, I am speaking with Leslie Carver an HR expert and CEO of Carver Connections who helps HR professionals develop genuine and authentic connections with their employees to improve retention.

Let me just say… this is a very interesting discussion! Especially if you’re a leader…

What are the 5 pillars of a healthy work culture?

Leslie outlines these 5 pillars of a healthy work culture – from the top of the executive right down through the organisation… to the individuals themselves:

Pillar 1:
Leaders walking the talk – ‘Be the culture that you want to see.’

Pillar 2:
Leaders being proactive about getting employees opportunities for growth and delivering on that – ‘Who doesn’t want to think that someone believes in them?’

Pillar 3:
Getting individual, tailored support from your manager so that your needs are met – ‘People are like vegetables! They all have individual, different needs to help them thrive.’

Pillar 4:
Solid, clear communication, otherwise assumptions are made – ‘If the communication pillar is weak, the whole organisation is weak.’

Pillar 5:
Individuals should play to their strengths daily – ‘It’s easy to not see that you’re in a role that doesn’t play to your strengths but when we are aligning people with where they are strong they will shine and the organisation will shine too.’

Here’s something that stood out for me in today’s episode:

“Women want to make an impact. If you give a woman an opportunity to make an impact, the sky’s the limit! And that for me is so exciting.” (Leslie Carver, Carver Communications, guest on Her Ambitious Career podcast)
