Too many women avoid building relationships with their senior exec team, but why when it…
Ep 79 – Part-Time Does Not Mean Part-Talented or Part-Arsed, with guest and working mum Clare Mullarkey
Working part-time makes you super productive and an even more potent asset to the business.
My guest today is Clare Mullarkey who is a Trademark Attorney based in UK, who also happens to be a mum. 🙂
This conversation was sparked by an article posted by Anna Whitehouse (check out her blog: Mother Pukka ) who is on a very vocal crusade in UK to highlight the inequity surrounding part time work and campaigns for flexible working for all.
Anna pointed out in her article that “part-time doesn’t also mean being part-arsed or part-talented” and is a sentiment Clare and I both deeply agree with… and so are bringing our conversation to you today!
We are talking about flexible working amongst other things:
- Some of the experiments with flexible working being tested right now
- How the Covid pandemic has helped us redefine what ‘working’ looks like
- Looking at productivity rather than the timeframes you work
- Boundaries and how important it is to be transparent about your hours
- How having personal values met (such as being a present mum) actually makes you better at your job
- How we are all defined by so much more than just our jobs
- And how part-time or working post-children doesn’t make women less ambitious…
- And a whole lot more!
Clare says:
“Society is now coming at this from different angles: the traditional part-timer working mum and this new concept of the 4-day working week across an entire company.
“We need to be transparent about the hours we work – for example putting those hours in your email signature –Â because sharing those boundaries is important.”
