How to Break the Cycle of Over-Delivering But Remaining Overlooked By Your Boss

What’s your #1 aim of going to work every day?

Is it to:

  • Deliver for your company?
  • To make your company more competitive?
  • Or more profitable?
  • Is it to hit your KPIs?
  • Or build a trusting, highly functioning team?

Or is your #1 aim to…

  • Use each ‘win’ as a launch-pad to create that next big, stretching opportunity for you and your career?

Feeling Overlooked at Work Hurts

I meet a lot of smart, professional women in my coaching business…

Who have spent their entire careers following only that first track:

Working their butts off to deliver for their companies.

They work essentially, to make their companies more competitive and richer…

Lining the pockets of their organisations, their leaders and shareholders.

And…

In that process…

(And despite all that hard work and all those long hours in the office)…

Many of those women still feel unrecognised, undervalued and as if they are missing out on the best opportunities.

Because many of them are.

Working For Your Own Success

I sometimes get asked, “What actually is Career Strategy, Rebecca?”

At the foundational level…

Career Strategy is about combining these two tracks together:

  1. Delivering for your company, hitting your targets and performing

Whilst also:

  1. Being proactive about defining what you want as a result of all your hard work to create only the best opportunities for you too.

How I see it, there are two tracks you can follow and the most successful, fulfilled women are those who follow BOTH simultaneously.

Track 1:  Your organisation and what it needs to thrive and be successful

And

Track 2: You and your career and what you need to thrive and be successful

Does that resonate with you?

Burnout Is No Fun

I find a lot of women are burning out…

Feeling undervalued…

And missing out…

Because they are pouring their entirety into only that first track, whilst omitting their own needs and ambitions.

In some ways… working really hard and following Track 1 is the easier route…

Yes, you have to work hard…

But you don’t have to put yourself out there…

Or risk rejection if you did.

You just put your head down and hope that your hard work will eventually be rewarded, right?

Whilst…

Track 2 involves choosing to advocate both for yourself and your work…

Which takes courage and is arguably harder…

So it’s understandable that so many professionals avoid Track 2 all together.

How to Do Things Smarter (And More Strategically)

But…

What if I told you that Career Strategy isn’t actually that hard?

What if I told you that you can learn to build your Executive Profile with key stakeholders in a matter of months?

What if I told you that ‘just working harder’ isn’t the solution?

What if I told you that you’re the master of your own destiny and can (literally) create new opportunities in your career – today, if you wanted?

What if I told you that missing out on a promotion is a thing of the past?

Would that be exciting?

I work every day with incredible women who choose to do things differently…

And who choose to work smarter to achieve their outcomes.

I’d love the same for you…

And if you’re ready, you might want to get some further support because doing this alone can be hard…

And you don’t need to take the hard route. 🙂
