Do you know your team? Do you know that they are getting what they need from you? Are they clear…
Want The Key to Unlock Motivation?
The words you use often say a lot about how you’re thinking.
Say, for example, you say, “I will go to the gym today.” – I would be inclined to believe you.
However, if you were to say, “I should go to the gym.” – The chances are, you won’t.
Have a think about how often you take the second path (which is called the Path of Necessity).
It’s the path of, “I ought to…. I should… I have to… I must… I need to…”
Which takes you to the land of stagnation and disappointment.
The Path of Possibility (you’ll be pleased to hear) is far more exciting!
Here, you’ll say proactive, upbeat things like, “I will… I am… I can… I want to…”
Any opportunity can be grabbed with this attitude!
> If you’re a Necessity Thinker, you might often find you’re confronted with ‘barriers’ to your progress (mostly imagined), but ‘barriers’ nevertheless.
> You might also feel that there’s some sort of expectation that you ‘should’ conform to but then make the decision not to conform anyway… which can lead to self-criticism and doubt.
> You may have goals (more realistically ‘dreams’) that are somewhere out there… but taking even the first step towards them is rarely attempted.
And guess what?
If you’re a Possibility Thinker, it’s quite the opposite!
Now the good news is, if you’re a Necessity Thinker and you want to start feeling and being more proactive, it could simply be that you’re chasing goals that don’t inspire you and that don’t align with your deepest values.
Think about that for a sec.
Possibility Thinkers have this uncanny knack of chasing down goals that really, really inspire them (which means they have real, true, powerful alignment between their values, their beliefs and the outcomes they’re chasing).
So… if you want to take that first leap out of Necessity Thinking…
…the best questions you can ask yourself right now are,
- “What are the most important things (values) in my life right now?”
2. “What do I most want?”
3. “What gives me meaning?”
The more you ponder your answers to these questions, the more rapidly you will be able to align, cut out the distractions and focus in on what it is that will make you truly happy.
