3 Things NOT To Do in 2022

Well… I think we can all take a deep breath… 2022 has finally arrived!

The start of a new year often brings with it talk of creating new habits and this year is no different.

And even if you’re worn out by the past 24 months of uncertainty…

It is still very much worth focusing on your ambitions all that you can control

Because…

After all…

There is always a great deal that is in your control.

So I’m here to tell you not to do these 3 things this year:

  1. Do NOT wait to get recognition
  2. Do NOT settle for mediocre opportunities
  3. Do NOT tell yourself you’re “not good enough”

Right… I’m glad I’ve got that off my chest!

And now… I need to explain why not…

The 3 Things Not to Do in 2022

You might be thinking, “Well, it’s pretty self evident why I shouldn’t do any of those three things Rebecca…” and if you are, then good; you’re already off to a flying start! 😉

But the reason why I’ve chosen to highlight these 3 is that they are the most common reasons why my clients come to me for career coaching in the first place because…

  • They’re feeling undervalued (they need recognition and to get paid what they’re worth)…
  • They’re in jobs or careers that are neither exciting them nor playing to their strengths (they’re settling for mediocre opportunities)…
  • They are doubting their value, their worth, their contribution (and consequently, they believe they aren’t “good enough”).

You Always Have Choice

Now, if even one of those scenarios is resonating with you, here’s a sweet piece of news…

You don’t have to do any of these things.

You have choice.

You can decide to make a change.

Yes, it might take a bit of honesty, a bit of guts, a bit of self-trust and a bit of effort to make that change…

But today is the day… this moment in fact, right now, when you can decide you want more for you, for your career, for your lifestyle.

How to Make 2022 Your Year!

Flip #1:

Instead of waiting for recognition, seek it out. Ask for it. Arrange a salary review. Arrange a performance review. Make it clear to key decision makers what you want from your career.

Flip #2:

Instead of settling for mediocrity, define what you really want from your career. Decide what you want to happen in the next 12-24 months. What fresh opportunities? What new challenges?

Flip #3:

Instead of wasting time focusing on where you think you ‘lack’, tell yourself, “I’ve got this”. Focus on where you are already adding value and where you are already making an impact.

You Are Worth It

These changes in behaviour may seem massive but they are not… they all boil down to making a new choice.

That’s it. You’ve just got to make a choice.

You are good enough.

You have got this.

What else will you NOT do in 2022?
