LinkedIn Optimisation Part 3: 5 Ways to Leverage Your Skills So Recruiters Find You Fast

You’re putting all this effort into filling your Linkedin profile with details, skills and keywords so that your profile is in those first 20-30 that a recruiter finds.

But are you really optimising your profile?

Linkedin Loves ‘Skills’

Linkedin algorithms really love skills. When a recruiter searches for a candidate, one of the first things s/he will be searching for is skills.

The skills you already have and the skills the role requires are all keywords and they should be scattered throughout your profile.

Here Are 5 Ways to Boost Your ‘Skills’ in Your Linkedin Profile:

1. Scatter these ‘skill’ keywords throughout your profile. A great spot is the header, where your name appears.

2.Make sure you have populated your current and past roles with lots of skills.

3.Show don’t tell. If you have certain skills that you can actually demonstrate, show recruiters in your profile.

  • Say for example you have published a white paper. Add it to the Publications tab on your profile.
  • Maybe you’ve spoken at a conference. Add a video clip of your speech to the Publications tab.
  • Add thought-leadership articles to your profile. These rank really high and are permanent to your profile versus ‘posts’ that only stay active for 24 hours at best. Make sure your articles are also keyword rich.

4.Ensure you have listed as many skills as you can in the Skills tab. Remember those keywords…

What skills is the recruiter searching for for this role?

If you have those skills, make sure you select them in the Skills section. But don’t ever list skills you don’t have!

You can add up to 50 skills (make sure you have at least 10 listed).

5.Ask for credible people to endorse the skills you have listed.

What are your tips to help your Linkedin Profile stand out?
